AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures Saturday afternoon returned to the upper 80s and lower 90s in the Austin area. Winds blew out of the south at 5-10 mph. Sunset Saturday night is at 6:48 p.m.
Overnight tonight will be mostly clear with winds turning calm. Temperatures will drop to the mid 60s, about 5° milder than normal. On Sunday, high temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90 with winds still out of the south/southeast at 5-10 mph. Sunrise Sunday morning will be at 7:42 a.m.
Heat has been the name of the game
Our current weather pattern of 10° warmer than average high temperatures and mostly sunny skies will stick around for a few more days before the door opens for multiple days of rain chances to return starting Tuesday. Recapping October, 24 out of the first 26 days have been warmer than average.
High pressure shifts East which allows rain chances to return
There are still a lot of unknowns about this upcoming pattern change. We'll continue to fine-tune exact totals, timing, and coverage in the coming days. Keep in mind we've only had 1 day of measurable rainfall at Camp Mabry in Austin (0.01"). High temperatures forecast to drop to the lower 80s by the end of next week.
Increasing confidence for Halloween showers
The bottom line is, rain is returning to Texas. We've elevated rain chances to 40% on Thursday and Friday.
Most of Travis County is under a severe drought (USDM). 14 out of the 15 counties we cover are currently under a burn ban.
Tropic Check
The Atlantic Basin is quiet today. In the eastern Pacific, Hurricane Kristy continues to weaken.
No U.S. tropical landfalls expected in the next 7-10 days.
