There will only be one grape drop in Temecula this New Year’s Eve. The Temecula City Council decided Tuesday, Oct. 22, to eliminate the midnight grape drop this year. The 9 p.m. grape drop will be the only drop — keeping the earlier East Coast celebration time. For nearly 16 years the city has celebrated twice on New Year’s Eve. A 9 p.m. celebration to match the Eastern time zone and then again at midnight for the tradition of ringing in the new year on the West Coast. There will still be a celebration when the new year arrives at midnight on the West Coast though. Later festivities will go on with a Temecula On Ice countdown. The New Year’s Eve skate session will continue until 12:30 a.m. at 41902 Main St., Temecula, according to a city report. For the 9 p.m. celebration, a drone show will start at 8:50 p.m. in Old Town Temecula, followed by the classic grape drop from the city’s clock tower to ring in the new year. This celebration will wrap by 10 p.m., the report says. The festivities take place at the Temecula Civic Center, 41000 Main St. Related Articles Local News | Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Eta Nu Omega Chapter awards scholarships to Inland Empire students Local News | What did Inland Empire legislators accomplish in Sacramento this year?
