ELMWOOD, La. (WGNO) — Charity organizations, like Second Harvest Food Bank and its supporters, are using Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour as an opportunity to raise awareness of their mission. Just in October, Swift donated $5 million to support relief efforts in the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton. Inside the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans on Edwards Avenue, volunteers packed boxes to the brim with canned goods and other nonperishable food items while other volunteers danced along to Swift’s music while helping in the kitchen. In celebration of the Eras Tour arriving at the Superdome, the crew made the whole place shimmer, courtesy of a glitter bar curated by Glitter Up Nola. “It’s a way to really, first of all, thank the volunteers for showing up, but also celebrate Taylor Swift, play some great music and have a good time, because volunteering at Second Harvest is an opportunity to get together and have fun and do some good,” said John Sillars, the chief strategy officer at Second Harvest. The organization is also sending one lucky winner and a guest to Saturday night's concert. "It's with The Rusty Nail and Side Car owners, who decided to buy Taylor Swift tickets and raffle them off, and the proceeds go to Second Harvest, which is just really exciting,” Sillars said. Young philanthropists are also feeling the spirit of Swift. With the help of their moms, 12-year-olds Charlotte Brechtel and Cecilia Segura made this viral Swift-inspired video to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in their efforts to assist those affected by recent hurricanes. Fans in New Orleans for first night of Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ Tour “[Taylor is] a really good person, so we really love her,” Cecilia said. “Also, she's donated to this charity.” The sixth graders set a goal to raise $1,313 for the organization, and with the help of the video, they reached their goal on Saturday just hours before Swift, once again, takes the stage at the Superdome. “So, we just wanted to give back to our community, especially since we know what it's like to go through hurricanes, so we wanted to donate to Florida,” Charlotte said.
