RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — For the eighth time, the Thompson family has transformed their Raleigh home into a haunted house for a great cause. "Edward wanted a haunted house when he got cancer in 2017," said Sarah Thompson, Edward's mom. Edward's Haunted House in Raleigh. Thompson said it was something to help while he went through chemotherapy. "One night, he was just really feeling awful," she said. "We asked if there was anything we can do to help. He said always wanted a haunted house." Thompson said the family only expected it to be a one-year endeavor, but a year later, Edward got sick again around Halloween. "We’ve just never stopped," Thompson said. Each year, it's continued to grow. "About a month it takes us to set up," Thompson said. "And we're usually down to the wire." This year, the family is taking donations to benefit Cancer for College, an organization that helps fund scholarships and medical debt relief for cancer survivors. Edward is a CFC scholar who's currently studying at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. "They really support the scholars that have had cancer, and so we’re very lucky to be part of this group," Thompson said. The Haunted House will be open Saturday and on Halloween from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The family also decks out their home around the holidays with Candyland. This year, they'll be taking donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
