(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is set to receive an $8 million grant funding for its Concourse Modernization project, ElevateCOS, from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant is part of President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and was awarded through a competitive process called the Airport Terminal Program, which aims to address aging infrastructure, improve terminal capacity, enhance environmental sustainability and accessibility, and encourage competition. "These funds will significantly contribute to enhancing our travelers' experience for many years to come," said FAA's Director of Aviation Greg Phillips. The three-year project is meant to increase sustainability in terminals, improve amenities, and update aged infrastructures. ElevateCOS had previously received funds for the project and is expected to be completed in 2026. Majority of the support for the project comes from federal grants such as ATP and Airport Improvement Grand (AIG). The funding for the remaining $38 million project will be drawn from Sirport reserves, passenger facility charges (PFC), and a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The Modernization Project includes a complete remodel of the terminal including hold rooms, restrooms, ceilings, windows, elevators, flooring, and the Public Address (PA) system. It will also add room for retail, food, and beverage options.
