As most Summit County residents know, there has been active debate surrounding Dakota Pacific’s request for a zoning change for their Kimball Junction Tech Park property. In a series of public forums hosted by the Summit County Council several months back, voters were unified in their passionate opposition to such a massive project and the incremental traffic which would come to what is already the county’s most congested interchange. Despite such vocal opposition, the council opted to pivot to closed door negotiations with the developer. And in late September, the council released an outline of the “master plan” for Dakota Pacific’s property, a plan now packed with even more housing and development that initially proposed! As I wrote in a letter to The Park Record several weeks ago, the council is willfully ignoring the clear input of its constituents and instead proceeding with a project they personally favor. We are now in election season. There is one member of the council who was part of these decisions who is running for reelection, Roger Armstrong. Despite some accomplishments during his three terms in that seat, I am voting instead for Tory Welch, his opponent. Armstrong has lost the right to have the loyalty of Summit County voters, plain and simple. I urge other voters to send Mr. Armstrong packing.Larry AllevaPark CityThe post Dakota Pacific vote appeared first on Park Record.
