AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Camp Mabry's high temperature Friday afternoon was 91°. It ties the record high for October 25th for the third time. The record was first set in 1950, the tied in 1988, 1992, and, now, 2024. The area will be very warm again today with most highs reaching the upper 80s to low 90s. The record high for October 26th is 90°, first set in 1950, then tied in 1954 and 1987. Today's normal high is 79° Like Friday, the area should see increasing clouds this morning followed by gradual clearing in the afternoon. A weak cold front to the west will move across the area shifting the winds from the west to the northwest. The front will not help to deliver any rain. Tomorrow will be bright and hot, too, with most highs returning to the upper 80s to low 90s. The record high for October 27th is 93° set in 1995. Monday will be a few degrees "cooler" with most highs in the upper half of the 80s. A forecast of 89° at Camp Mabry, if reached, will tied the record first set in 1917. Pattern change on track A welcomed change in the weather pattern takes place starting the middle of this week. A cold front will slide into the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. At the same time, an upper-level low will land in the Pacific Northwest late in the week with a trough extending south into the southwest United States. The winds aloft will shift to bring in moisture from the Pacific Ocean. This results in increasing rain chances. A few isolated showers will be a part of Tuesday's forecast but it's Wednesday to Saturday where rain chances are the highest they've been in weeks. Rain chances going up later this week This morning's European map model shows a decent chance of rain on Halloween. There may well be a few showers during the time the candy is being collected. Trick of treaters may get wet Halloween evening The models disagree on how much rain will be measured. For now, and subject to change, we'll go with an average of .25" to .75" with the caveat of some could get more. The wet pattern is forecast to continue into the first week of November. Rainfall outlook November 2nd through 8th Temperatures are forecast at the same time to be warmer than normal. Normal would be the mid 70s for highs and the mid to low 50s for lows. The Atlantic Basin is quiet today. In the eastern Pacific, Hurricane Kristy continues to weaken. Get the latest tropical update here. MISS THE COLD?
