FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man has been arrested following a pursuit that ended with a crash with another vehicle and several objects, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies say they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle near Shields and Hughes avenues in Fresno on Friday at 8:32 p.m. The driver, however, did not comply and a pursuit ensued. According to the sheriff's office, the driver made several turns at moderate speeds around neighborhoods in the Fruit and Gettysburg avenues area. At one point, he even let a passenger out and continue to Shaw Avenue and then went north on Palm Avenue at higher speeds. At 9:46 p.m., deputies say the suspect ran a red light and collided with the front end of a Lexus SUV headed east on Sierra Avenue. The suspect lost control, crashed into a fire hydrant, clipped a power pole and took out a tree before his vehicle came to rest. Deputies say they were able to get the suspect crawl out of his car and placed him under arrest. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and will later be booked into jail. He is a current parolee, but his identity has not been released at this time. Sheriff's officials add the other person involved in the crash, a man and a woman, were able to walk away from the incident with mild pain. This is an ongoing investigation.
