OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) – Less than two weeks until the November election, two of the most important races are recalls in the East Bay – one to oust Oakland mayor Sheng Thao and the other to get rid of Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price. If the two recalls are successful, what happens next?   If the election to recall Price is successful, it will be up to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to appoint a replacement.  E. coli cases rise, Salinas ag company ID’d as source of outbreak: McDonald’s That appointed DA will serve until the next general election in November 2026. Whoever wins that election will serve out the remaining two years of Price’s term, which runs through the end of 2028. Things are a bit more complicated at Oakland City Hall. If Thao loses the election, once the recall results are certified, likely in December, City Council President Nikki Fortunato Bas would become the acting mayor until a special election is held within 120 days, meaning sometime in the Spring of 2025. Whoever wins that special election will serve out Thao’s term, which finishes at the end of 2026. But there’s a wrinkle – if Bas is elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in November’s election, she could be acting mayor for a month. Then in January, the Oakland City Council would choose a new board president, and that person would become acting mayor until that special election. Under that scenario, Oakland could see four mayors in a matter of five months.
