CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) -- After flooding in Chaves County, residents can put out debris for pickup. On October 19, intense rains in southeast New Mexico caused destructive and deadly flash floods. Now, residents can have their debris collected at temporary staging sites or at the curbside. “The impacts from this flooding have been devastating to this community, but the state will be with them to support every step of their recovery,” said DHSEM State Director Ali Rye. “We’re working with local and county officials to make sure residents have options that are easy to navigate.” The debris should be separated into five categories:- Electronics- Large appliances- Vegetative debris- Construction debris-Household garbage, food, or packaging If you'd like to use the Roswell Municipal Landfill, it'll be open for extended hours on October 26 and October 27. - Oct. 26: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.- Oct. 27: 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The city will be waiving landfill fees until further notice.
