Amite man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend

AMITE, La. (WGNO) — An Amite man has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend on Friday.
Officials with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office say, just before 7 a.m. on Oct. 25, deputies were called to a home on Bankston Road after a woman, later identified as Aieron Thomas, was found unresponsive.
Former St. John the Baptist Parish deputy accused of simple battery
Thomas was 13 weeks pregnant. She was shot once in the chest and did not survive.
22-year-old Demarcus Womack, Thomas's live-in boyfriend, was soon identified as a suspect in the investigation.

After finding Womack, he allegedly confessed to both the shooting and trying to hide evidence of the crime. He was then arrested and was booked on one count each of second-degree murder, and second-degree murder (feticide.)
