(Photo courtesy of Caleb Christensen and Creighton Athletics)WASHINGTON, D.C. –(CU Athletics Oct. 25)– Kirsten Bernthal Booth picked up her 600th career coaching victory as No. 6 Creighton Volleyball defeated Georgetown in three sets on Friday at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. Scores of Creighton’s 11th consecutive victory were 25-21, 25-13, 25-9. Creighton (18-2, 9-0 BIG EAST) remains alone in first place of the BIG EAST at the midpoint of league play and is now unbeaten at the turn for the sixth time since 2015. Georgetown (8-13, 1-8 BIG EAST) has now lost 11 of its last 12 matches after a 7-2 start. Aces by Maddy Bilinovic, Sydney Breissinger and Ava Martin helped stake Creighton to an 11-3 lead in the opening moments of the match, only to have Georgetown counter with a 6-0 run featuring three aces by Dionna Mitchell to prompt a Bluejay timeout. Georgetown drew as close as one on a couple occasions before a second ace by Breissinger created some separation and helped CU to an opening set victory. Creighton hit .286 as Norah Sis had six kills and the Bluejays served four aces. Sis dominated the second set, providing eight more kills in 10 swings to lead Creighton in a 25-13 victory. CU hit .520 in the frame while holding the Hoyas to -.030 attacking. GU’s only lead came of the match when it won the first point of the second set, but CU scored the next four points and did not trail again. Kendra Wait had 11 assists and seven digs in the second frame. The Bluejays raced to leads of 8-0 and 17-2 in the third and final set victory. Creighton has now won 20 straight sets against Georgetown in Washington, D.C., and 25 straight sets against the Hoyas at all sites. The 25 straight sets wins is tied for its third-longest ever over another school. CU hit .417 and GU attacked at a -.083 clip in the finale as 17 different Bluejays saw action. Sis led all players with 16 kills while hitting .481, Martin notched 10 kills, seven digs and three aces, and Wait finished just shy of a double-double with 30 assists and nine digs. Elise Goetzinger returned to the line-up with eight kills in 10 swings, adding three blocks. The Bluejays had 45 kills, 39 digs, eight aces and seven blocks while hitting .388. Mary Grace Goyena topped Georgetown with six kills. GU finished with 19 kills, 23 digs, four aces and four blocks on .047 hitting. Creighton is back in action on Saturday at 5 p.m. Central when it visits Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.
