HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Following the latest impact of the Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines merger, more than 70 Hawaiian employees will lose their jobs by the end of the year. Airline experts on merger: ‘Hawaiian employees going to do fine in long term’ A notice that Hawaiian filed with the state announced 57 non-union employees in Honolulu will be laid off, most of them in the corporate headquarters, with the additional 16 mainland employees. Hawaiian Airlines in a statement Officials said around 1,400 non-contracted employees were offered a permanent or interim Hawaii-based position "to continue to support Hawaiian’s extensive operational presence across the islands and the work to integrate both airlines." Those who received interim offers will be extended for at least six months from Sept. 18, when the merger was completed. "We hope to retain most people for a year or longer, including through permanent positions," Hawaiian added. The airline added they will also receive a retention nd severance package.
