The Cook County corrections deputy charged this year with trying to smuggle drug-soaked paper in Cook County Jail is now also accused of providing a cell phone to a jail detainee.Shadonna Jones, 54, was charged in August with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver after officers searched her Lynwood home and found 48 sheets of paper that contained MDMB-BUTINACA, a synthetic cannabinoid, the Cook County sheriff’s office said.Officers also found a cell phone at her home which investigators later determined had been used July 13 by a person held in custody at the jail. The detainee used the cell phone while in custody to take selfies chat on Facebook Messenger and view pornographic websites, the sheriff’s office said.Jones’ personal phone records show she had exchanged text messages with the user of the other phone while on her shift at the jail, the sheriff’s office said. The additional felony charges filed Thursday accuse Jones of official misconduct and delivery of electronic contraband to an inmate of a penal institution by an employee. Also during their search of Jones’ home, officers found a letter addressed to Jones that “appeared to have been written by an individual in custody” saying he sold “paper” for $10,000 a page, and that Jones would be paid $2,500 for each package of paper she could smuggle in, the sheriff’s office said. After being arrested in August, Jones told investigators she got the paper from the family of a person in custody and was paid $1,000 to accept and deliver the paper, though she said she didn’t intend to actually complete delivery, according to the sheriff’s office.Jones was de-deputized and placed on administrative leave without pay following her arrest. No other information was available.
