WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- As Halloween approaches and the month comes to an end, there are plenty of fun and festive things to do in the District this weekend. DC News Now has compiled a list of events happening in D.C. from Saturday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 27, that all ages will surely enjoy. Saturday, Oct. 26: Home Rule Music Festival at Alethia Tanner Park Due to the summer heat, organizers rescheduled the Home Rule Music Festival at Alethia Tanner Park from July 20 to Saturday, Oct. 26. The event will be held from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m., and will feature live music, a record fair, local food vendors, crafted drinks and more. The family-friendly festival celebrates D.C.'s vibrant music scene, legacy and culture. Tickets are free and open to the public. However, a limited number of VIP tickets are also available for $75 apiece. Click here to get tickets. Trick-or-treating at Mount Vernon Halloween lovers will have the chance to collect candy around Mount Vernon's historic grounds on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees can also help with soap-making using 18th-century techniques, hear about Mount Vernon's horses, listen to the music of the revolution, watch a puppet show and more. Tickets are $30 for those nonmembers who want to trick-or-treat and $17 for members. For children under 12, tickets are $25 for nonmembers and $10 for members. Members who do not want to collect candy can attend for free with a complimentary grounds pass. Click here to purchase a ticket to the festivities. 5th annual Nightmare in Navy Yard The annual event will take over the Capital Turnaround in Southeast for a Halloween party featuring food trucks, two DJs, a five-hour open bar, over 50 animatronics, two dance floors and more. Halloween in DC: Haunted houses, trunk-or-treat, more Sunday, Oct. 27: National Symphony Orchestra Family Concert: Halloween Spooktacular! Halloween and music lovers alike will be able to enjoy spooky classics performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, who will be "ghoulishly attired." The concerts will take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Families can arrive early to enjoy trick-or-treating and a haunted musical PLAYspace, where kids can get candy and try out the instruments they will see on stage. Marine Corps Marathon and Finish Festival The 49th annual Marine Corps Marathon will take place this Sunday. It will kick off in Arlington, adjacent to the Pentagon, at 7:15 a.m. 49th Marine Corps Marathon: Road closures, Metro service impacts in DC area The race, also known as "The People's Marathon," is one of the largest marathons in the world and is joined by veterans, Marines and supporters. Those wishing to see and support the runners take off can attend the opening ceremony at Route 110 in Arlington. Spectators wanting to see and cheer on loved ones as they cross the finish line can go to the Marine Corps War Memorial. In celebration of the race, downtown Rosslyn invites the public to enjoy activities alongside runners and supporters with live music, giveaways, food, beer and "essential post-event services," according to the race's website. The festival will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is a short walk from the finish line. Click here to see a map of where the festival and finish line are located. Pumpkin Painting Party at Calico The Calico alley bar will host a pumpkin painting party on Sunday, where guests can purchase their very own pumpkins from the establishment's pop-up patch and decorate them with complimentary painting supplies. Guests will also be able to capture the moment in the festive photo area decorated with leaves, pumpkins and corn stalks.
