FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A key to open a Fresno County ballot drop box was found left in the lock by a member of the public, according to Fresno County's Registrar of Voters. The key, used by Fresno County election officials to access Ballot Drop Boxes, was found still in the lock at the drop box near Fancher Creek Elementary School in southeast Fresno. The key has since been recovered by staff with the Fresno County Registrar of Voters. Fresno County elections office prepares for November election According to Fresno County, the box was Ballot Drop Box 1063 and was last serviced at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Officials say this incident "is the first time that a Ballot Drop Box has been left unsecured by Election staff members due to human error." When the issue was reported, officials say they secured the drop box and the materials inside and returned it to the Elections Department Warehouse for processing. Another ballot box with a new locking mechanism will be installed at Fancher Creek Elementary. Any voters who left their ballot at the Ballot Drop Box on Thursday can contact the Fresno County Elections Department toll-free at 844-977-8683 to find out if their ballot has been received. The team that left the key in the lock at Ballot Drop Box 1063 has been "relieved of their Ballot Drop Box servicing duties," officials add.
