LOS BANOS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested after he allegedly stole a pickup truck and led officers on a pursuit in Los Banos on Thursday, the Los Banos Police Department said. Police say at around 8:40 p.m., officers were told about a stolen vehicle and burglary at a shed in the 300 block of I Street. Soon after they received reports of shots fired in the area of South 11th Street and Pioneer Road. CHP arrests DUI driver caught without lights switched on According to police, an officer saw a pickup truck driving along the shoulder of Pioneer Road. The pickup was backfiring, creating the noise that was reported to be shots fired. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but police say it evaded the officer by driving through an orchard at low speeds. The truck then collided with a tree and the suspect tried to run away on foot. The officer chased the suspect on foot and arrested him. The suspect was identified as 42-year-old, Abel Salinas Jr. and police say the pickup was determined to be the stolen vehicle the officer had been told about earlier. 42-year-old, Abel Salinas Jr. Salinas was booked at the Los Banos Police Department on suspicion of vehicle theft, burglary and possession of stolen property.
