SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A dessert shop in San Francisco’s Castro District was temporarily closed by the city due to a cockroach and rodent infestation. U Dessert Story on 16th Street was ordered to close Wednesday by the San Francisco Department of Public Health after a routine inspection. On Friday, U Dessert Story confirmed to KRON4 that it reopened for business. "We have successfully passed all San Francisco Health Department requirements and are now open for business," U Dessert Story said in a statement Friday. "U Dessert Story remains dedicated to the highest standards of cleanliness and customer satisfaction, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back." According to the health inspector's report Wednesday, live nymph and adult cockroaches were seen in U Dessert Story's kitchen on top of in-use sheet trays and food preparation tables. An “accumulation” of rodent droppings was found “throughout the floor in the food preparation area” as well as the bottom shelf of a food prep table where utensils are stored, the report said. Bay Area drivers may pay over $10 to cross bridges in 2030 Live and dead cockroaches were “observed on monitoring traps affixed to the wall in the food preparation area,” and a live roach was spotted beneath the counter with a cake display, according to the inspector. The report also added that a personal phone was observed on top of a food preparation table. A “closed” placard was issued and posted by the health department on Wednesday. City officials required U Dessert Story to be serviced by a licensed pest control operator. The facility was also required to receive a deep clean, and all gaps, holes and crevasses were to be sealed. All contaminated food was ordered to be discarded. U Dessert Story has one location in San Francisco and another in Berkeley. The business describes itself as the "next level of Asian desserts" and is "influenced by Korean, Japanese, and Thai passion," according to its website.
