West Springfield man dies in multivehicle crash in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A West Springfield man has died following a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Chicopee.
According to the Chicopee Police Department, at around 8:37 a.m. multiple 911 calls were received reporting the crash on First Avenue, which intersects with Burnett Road in Chicopee. Upon arrival, officers determined three vehicles were involved in the crash including a tractor-trailer.
Minor injuries reported in three-car crash in Springfield
Chicopee firefighters assisted in removing a driver trapped in their vehicle. The driver, identified by Chicopee police as a 62-year-old man from West Springfield, was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died due to his injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle involved was taken to the hospital and has since been released and the tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Chicopee Police Reconstruction Team as well as the Massachusetts State Police and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office.
