ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque city leaders said they are taking steps to make roads on the westside safer and more appealing. The Department of Municipal Development said crews have installed nearly 500 streetlights and speed cameras in the area and are repairing and building new roads. Crews are also working on median landscaping on Coors Bypass from Seven Bar Loop Rd. to Ellison Rd., and have added decorative rocks along a seven-mile stretch of Coors. "And I know people on the east side are like 'how come you are paving all the roads on the westside because they're newer than the eastside?' That's the reason why, because they are actually in worse shape because the sands have been shifting underneath,"said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. The Albuquerque Police Department has also stepped up traffic enforcement on the westside issuing nearly 1,800 citations over the last two months.
