RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) is asking residents of the city to attend a City Council meeting virtually or in person to support its plea for a new facility to shelter its animals. According to a post on the agency's Facebook page, RACC does not have enough space to house all of its animals but has the opportunity to purchase a new building located on the 2300 block of West Cary Street in Richmond's Fan neighborhood. An ordinance to move $2 million from the city's Department of Public Works' Commerce Road Improvement Project to RACC to purchase the property was recommended for approval by the Richmond Planning Committee on Oct. 1 and Richmond City Council is expected to vote on it at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. RACC is asking Richmonders to attend the City Council meeting on Nov. 12, either in person or virtually, to show their support for the agency and urge the members of City Council to vote to approve the ordinance.
