2 arrested in Newport face gun, drug charges

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Police arrested two Newport men accused of dealing drugs on Thursday.
Tyquan Mitchell, 24, and Gerald McNeill, 62, were taken into custody after a months-long investigation that culminated with the search of apartments on Broadway and in Bayside Village on Third Street.
Detectives seized crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia at the apartment on Broadway, plus an illegal firearm and magazine at the Bayside Village apartment, according to police.
Mitchell has been charged with the following:
Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance
Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
Possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence
Possession of a high capacity feeding device.
McNeill has been charged with maintaining a narcotics nuisance and possession of crack cocaine.
Both men were arraigned at Second Division Court, with McNeill being released on $1,000 personal recognizance and Mitchell being held on $40,000 surety bail.
