WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — State leaders joined the Rhode Island State Police on Friday for a groundbreaking ceremony on the new Southern Public Safety Complex. R.I. State Police said the new state-of-the-art facility will replace the Wickford and Hope Valley Barracks and help streamline operations. ALSO READ: How to apply for 2025 RI State Police training academy "They're outdated, and it's not safe in many respects," Gov. Dan McKee said. R.I> State Police Col. Darnell Weaver echoed the governor's sentiments. "Those buildings have served us well for over 90 years, but modern policing requires a modern building," he said. Roughly 80 troopers will be stationed at the 35,000 square-foot facility, which will serve as a "hub" for public safety in Southern Rhode Island. "As our communities grow and evolve, so to must our ability to meet their needs," Weaver said. "This facility will allow us continue delivering the highest quality of service to the public."
