SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The Sioux Falls School District will be looking for a new superintendent.  According to a news release, Dr. Jane Stavem will step down in her role as superintendent at the end of the school year. Stavem took over the position in 2020 and said she's looking forward to the next chapter of her life and career. Some SD Trump voters say he won’t be president "It has been an incredible honor and privilege to serve as superintendent of the Sioux Falls School District,” Stavem said in a news release. “I have truly enjoyed leading this district and working alongside the exceptional teachers, dedicated administrators, supportive board members, and strong community partners who care so deeply about the success of our students." According to DeAnn Konrad, the district's community relations coordinator, Stavem's resignation will need to be approved by the school. A new three-year contract for Stavem was approved by the school board in July 2023.  The yearly salary and benefits, without including insurance, as of July 2023 was about $329,244. The contract said one year will be added each July 1 unless prior written notice is provided by either party. The agreement would not extend beyond June 30, 2029, unless otherwise agreed to by the parties. The contract posted on the district's website indicates an accrued balance or fringe benefit account with a vested timeline that starts each June. The benefit is $50,000 a year in addition to her salary. Stavem must provide at "least seven (7) months' notice prior to the end of any vesting period of her intent not to return for the following school year," or she will forfeit that accrued balance. The Sioux Falls School District is the largest in the state with about 24,000 students. A search for a successor will start in the coming months. This is a developing story.
