MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jackson Hopper, the man accused of killing a medical student in Memphis before leading officers on a multi-county chase last weekend, now faces more charges out of Dyer County. The Dyer County Sheriff's Office said Friday they have issued arrest warrants for Hopper on charges of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, felony evading arrest in a vehicle, reckless driving and resisting arrest. Hopper is currently jailed without bond in Shelby County for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Ellie Young, at a cancer walk at Shelby Farms on Saturday. Suspect in medical student’s death being held without bond Jackson Hopper Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box said in a post to the department's Facebook page that, after the shooting, Hopper fled 70 miles through four Tennessee counties, at times driving on the wrong side of Highway 51 through Dyersburg before he was stopped by a Dyer County deputy's PIT maneuver. "He tried to kill a constable in Tipton County and attempted to kill one of my deputies with his vehicle," Box wrote. "He had 70 miles and four counties to stop. He refused." Box said Hopper resisted arrest and ignored commands, had a loaded handgun in his car and attempted to take an officer's service weapon. Hopper's arrest, which left him with black eyes, has faced some questions, and the sheriffs of Lauderdale and Tipton counties say their agencies are undergoing internal investigations. Box praised the deputy who stopped Hopper's car as a hero. Funeral plans for medical student killed at Shelby Farms cancer walk A visitation for Ellie Young will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ripley First United Methodist Church at 145 South Main Street in Ripley, Tennessee.
