MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is accused of driving her Jeep into a group of children on a Frayser sidewalk, injuring four and sending one child onto her hood, then driving away without helping them. When police tracked the woman down a few days later, she told them she was being pursued by someone who was shooting at her. Sharon Jackson, 43, faces four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and more. She was booked into jail Friday and held on $15,200 bond. Sharon Jackson The children, three of them age 8 and one age 7, were taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital with injuries. One had to have surgery for a dislocated hip, another lost consciousness when his head hit the pavement and two required stitches. Witnesses told police that on Sept. 21 around noon, a woman in a Jeep Compass was driving at high speed on Randolph Street when she struck a mailbox, continued onto the sidewalk, then slid sideways, hitting the four children. He also told police he heard a shot fired but could not tell who fired it. Jackson allegedly stopped briefly, but didn't help or identify herself. Investigators tracked her down four days later based on license plate information. When they contacted her, they say she admitted to hitting the children, but said she left the scene because someone in another vehicle was pursuing her and shooting at her. House fire in Frayser ruled arson She told police she left the vehicle at a house in South Memphis, but she did not know the address. Police said Jackson's license has been suspended since 2009. Video from the scene showed the Jeep Compass hitting the children on the sidewalk.
