MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say six people involved in a drug operation were arrested at an American Way motel shut down as a public nuisance this week by a judge. The DA said since August of 2022, police had responded to 800 police calls, including at least three homicides, three dead-on-arrival calls, overdoses, and several armed robberies and assaults. Memphis Extended Stay on American Way (L to R) Martese Walker, Desaray Hampton, Desmond Coutch, Patrice Crawford, Kayla Carlton, Kyesha Holland MPD said members of its Organized Crime Unit found four women and two men inside a room with fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, 893 oxycodone hydrochloride pills, 39 Xanax pills, four handguns, and a rifle. Investigators said they also found a ledger with a list of customers, prices, payment methods, and type and quantity of narcotics being purchased. They said at least two of the handguns seized were stolen. Kayla Carlton, Desmond Couch, Desaray Hampton, Kyesha Chantay Holland, and Martese Walker were all taken into custody and are facing numerous drug and weapons charges. Martese Walker & Desaray Hampton According to the affidavit of complaint, in 2008, Walker pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, two counts of especially aggravated robbery, and two counts of aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Detectives said in 2014, Hampton pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days confinement. Walker is being held on a $250,000 bond. All six defendants are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
