We saw another round of unseasonably warm temperatures Friday as a frontal system moved in from the northwest. A southwest wind gusting 20 to 25 miles per hour at times helped push afternoon highs into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, nearly 15 degrees above average for late October. The front will slide through the commonwealth into early Saturday with a continued chance of a few widely scattered rain showers. As the front slides off to our east, cooler and drier air will work in from the northwest as we kick off the weekend Saturday. With plenty of sunshine returning and a light northeast breeze it should be a pleasant late October day with afternoon highs topping out in the mid-60s which is essentially spot on for this time of the year. Conditions should be nice for any outdoor activities, including the final “daily double” of the season as the fall meet at Keeneland wraps up in the afternoon followed by Kentucky and Auburn at Kroger Field on Saturday evening. You’ll definitely want to take a sweatshirt or a jacket along to the game as temperatures will fall through the 50s so it will be a bit chilly. Closing out the weekend and heading into the final few days of October expect more quiet weather along with plenty of sunshine. Our coolest day should be Sunday as afternoon highs only recover into the low to mid-60s after starting out in the upper 30s. High pressure will drift eastward on Monday allowing a return flow to set up from this south. This will allow a big jump in temperatures with afternoon highs expected to be a solid 10 degrees warmer to kick off the week with readings into the low 70s as the upward trend continues. Remember that the fall foliage will be peaking out soon so enjoy it while it lasts. Looking ahead to Halloween, more unseasonably warm air should be in place as temperatures work back into the mid to upper 70s for afternoon highs thanks to more sunshine along with breezy conditions ahead of a cold front. At this point we could see a few scattered showers for trick or treating late Thursday but the timing of the front is the key factor. With the front slowing down over the area late next week the shower chances should remain in place as we kick off November. ABC 36 HOUR FORECAST FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with isolated showers.
