MAYBERRY, Va. (WGHP) -- Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick County, Virginia, the historic Mayberry Trading Post is back open and welcoming visitors. “I can't sit here on this bench and not think of Uncle Coy,” said Pam Frazier, who recently bought the store that’s been in both sides of her family since it opened in 1892.  “It's really older than that because they had another building, and that had the old store there first.” She's lived across the country in every state, but when the store came up for sale, she knew this was where she needed to be. “I just felt like it should stay there,” she said while reflecting on when she was seven and dreaming of owning the store. “I told Momma when I grow up, I want to work at Mayberry Trading Post and, someday, I want to own Mayberry Trading Post.” Retirement turned those childhood dreams into reality.  “We redid the floors but had to keep the counters and the original shelves,” said Frazier, who kept much of the historic store the same, including the old post office that once sat in the back until 1922. “The post office boxes are still here.” The store holds all the items you’d expect to find in a county store from jams, cheeses and quilts to arts & crafts made by local artisans.    This community is the namesake of the most famous small town on American television: "The Andy Griffith Show’s"Mayberry.  Andy’s mother, Nannie Geneva Nunn Griffith, was born and raised here. While Mayberry fans and travelers of the Blue Ridge Parkway stop in often, it's the folks who stay a while that Frazier treasures the most. “When people come in, I really encourage them to sit and talk,” she said. “Here in front is the best seat in the house."
