GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — People around the state are packing the polls to take advantage of early voting. Thursday marked one week since in-person early voting began, and voters have been eager to get it done.  Both presidential campaigns know how important it is to motivate people to vote, especially in swing states like North Carolina.  “I’m just trying to get ahead of the crowd. I know it’s going to be a massive turnout this year,” said Ed Rhodes, an early voter. Rhodes wanted to beat the crowd before Nov. 5. He says one vote can make a difference, and he’s not alone. “I vote early when I can because that way I can plan better and leave that day not having to stand in line all day,” said June, an early voter. “I just want to make sure I can vote,” said Katie, an early voter. More than two million voters have turned out so far across North Carolina. Here's how the Triad contributed as of Thursday: Forsyth County: 82,471 Alamance County: 30,282 Davidson County: 34,227 Randolph County: 27,193 Guilford County: 110,674 Will Matney says he’s been studying up on all races on the ballot.  “The presidential election is obviously the big one but I try to vote in all the local ones as well because I know the local elections end up having a bigger impact on the day-to-day life that I have in North Carolina,” Matney said. He hopes his fellow voters do their research on the local races, too.  “I will say the local elections are not advertised nearly as much, so I think a lot of people don’t even know when the local elections are. So that’s something I try to stay educated on and make sure I’m not missing any of them,” Matney said. At the polling site at the Lewis Reaction Center, 800 people voted on Friday as of 4 p.m.
