GREEN BAY, WI (WFRV) - You may have noticed some Osprey aircraft over the skies of Austin Straubel International Airport recently. Local 5 News was able to interview one of the Captains behind the controls. He is Green Bay native Matt McMahon. Unity Hospice volunteers give aging and dying Veterans recognition and dignity in Peshtigo "We're here. VMM 161 Osprey Squad. We're out here for about ten days doing a bunch of training," Captain McMahon said. The Southwest High School lacrosse and football standout treated some St. Norbert players, family, friends, and reporter Michele McCormack for a tour of his office. "It's pretty cool," he said of the homecoming. "It's been an awesome experience. Everyone's been unbelievable. We went down to tailgate at the Packers games. Big win for the Packers." Captain McMahon shared how his upbringing in northeast Wisconsin prepared him for the rigors of service. "I had a lot of coaches who were military growing up," Captain McMahon said. "So I always thought about it and then after college I did it and it's worked out." While he certainly enjoys showing off the military hardware, the Captain said the people he serves alongside bring the most meaning to his time in the Marines. "I've met and worked with people from all parts of the country. Every walk of life. Just awesome. Just a special group of people." The captain can't talk about his training in Green Bay or his missions overseas in his seven years of service. "I think the leadership experience you get can translate to pretty much any job."
