MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities are investigating a shooting that took place inside West Towne Mall on Friday morning, prompting safety measures and a significant law enforcement response. The Madison Police Department reported that a single shot was fired near a cell phone store, with two individuals involved in the incident. Video footage shows one person drawing a gun and firing toward another individual across the hallway. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured. No victims with gunshot wounds have been located at the mall or local hospitals. Law enforcement officials interviewed mall employees and witnesses and gathered digital evidence. A K9 unit was also deployed to search for physical evidence. The department has withheld additional details to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. West Towne Mall activated its safety protocols, with businesses temporarily shutting down and customers being moved to secure areas. By 1:30 p.m., most stores had reopened. Nearby businesses also went into lockdown but have since resumed normal operations.
