Man arrested after crashing into vacant house, sparking major fire in Wisconsin

RACINE, Wis. (WFRV) — A 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after crashing his vehicle into a vacant house, sparking a fire that engulfed both the car and the building.
Racine Police responded to the 1500 block of S. Memorial Dr. for a reported vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers found the car had crashed into the front of the house, which was already on fire. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The City of Racine Fire Department worked for several hours to extinguish the blaze, which fully engulfed the vacant house. No additional injuries were reported.

Police said speed was a factor in the crash. After the driver was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody for recklessly endangering safety.
