ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) ---Local attorney and former Allen County Magistrate Marcia Linsky was honored posthumously Friday at the Allen County Commissioners weekly legislative meeting. Commissioner Nelson Peters went through Linsky’s 28-year legal career in northeastern Indiana before delivering an engraved glass Distinctive Service Award to Linsky’s daughter, Elizabeth Schlichter. Schlichter was there with her husband, John Schlichter, and their two children, Emilia and Cannon. Linsky was stabbed and killed inside her Grabill home in February. She worked at the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, then as a county magistrate before settling in to the Allen County Public Defender’s Office. Many people attending a pre-reception before the commissioner’s meeting called her “an advocate,” including Kim Churchward, executive director of Allen County Community Corrections, a long-time friend. Peters spoke of Linsky’s dedication to her clients and organizations like Blue Jacket, a non-profit that helps individuals find employment who otherwise might fail. “Marcia believed in people and their ability to overcome their past,” Peters said. He also mentioned her podcast, “On the Level with Linsky,” a tool she used to inform people of programs and services like JCAP, Project Me and Drug Court. “She truly was an icon,” Peters said. “A vibrant woman who dedicated her career to helping people and who felt it was important to see people as individuals, not just judge them as stereotypes.” The county’s chief public defender, William Lebrato, said he started as a misdemeanor public defender the same week Linsky began her career as a magistrate. “You can’t put into words or measure a loss of somebody like Marcia,” Lebrato said. “Marcia was an amazing person, an excellent attorney, a staunch advocate for all of her clients.” Lebrato recalled appearing in front of Linsky as magistrate for four years. “I can’t express the amount of knowledge she imparted to me. She changed so many lives for the better, She was a great, great attorney but a way better person.”
