FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- Southwest Allen County Schools officials are calling out parents, staff and community members to apply to be an education advocate for the district. The program was first established last year under former superintendent Park Ginder, and it went so well district leaders are excited to bring it back again. As a Southwest Education Advocate, officials say you will gain insight to every aspect of the district's daily operations. This can include things like student services, business operations, transportation and more. Advocates will have to attend eight sessions throughout the year beginning in Nov. and wrapping up in May. Superintendent Kent Dekoninck says it takes a village to bring kids up right and he's grateful for the communities continued support. "Obviously it's for children, but the best way you impact kids, and the most impact you have on children, is when the village is involved." The deadline to apply is Nov. 3, click here to send your application.
