FRIDAY UPDATE (KSNW) -- Firefighters brought the grass fire in northeast Wichita under control around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Sedgwick County crews remained on the scene throughout the night and into Friday morning, putting out hot spots. At a late-morning update, Sedgwick County Fire Department Chief Ray Hensley said around 360 acres had burned. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, though it is believed to have started near the Stryker Sports Complex parking lot before spreading approximately a mile and a half up Greenwich Road. Chief Hensley said the department uses drones with thermal imaging to help identify any hotspots. WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Firefighters are battling a grass fire in northeast Wichita. KSN has learned the fire is not close to containment, and crews will be out in the area for several hours. There is no immediate danger to people at the moment, but people are leaving the area on their own. Tanker 95 with the Kansas Forest Service has been called to do water drops. It is airborne and on the way. The fire is near Greenwich and 29th Street North, near Stryker Sports Complex. Sedgwick County Dispatch said as of 3:54 p.m., no homes have been damaged. Wichita, Sedgwick County, and Andover firefighters are on the scene. The fire marshal says drivers need to avoid the area because of the smoke and so emergency vehicles can get through. Click here to watch KSN's SkyView camera Butler County Dispatch told KSN fire units have moved closer if needed, but Sedgwick County has not requested their assistance yet. Sedgwick County Emergency Management is monitoring the situation. So far, there are no requests for evacuations. Greenwich has been closed between 29th Street North and 54th Street North.
