CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's time to clean out your medicine cabinet and bring any old medications down to a local collection center. Drug Take Back Day is meant to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications and make sure they never end up in the wrong hands. Illegal drugs, syringes, or sharps will not be accepted. Sen. Warren urges action on gun trafficking in Springfield Drop-off locations will be set up at police departments across western Massachusetts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Springfield Police Department is hosting its location at Central High School on 1840 Roosevelt Ave. West Springfield, Agawam, and Holyoke will be held at the police headquarters. According to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, there will be 11 in Hampshire County and five in Franklin County communities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other drop-off sites: Wildwood Elementary School on 71 Strong Ave. in Amherst The Town Common in Belchertown Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School on Locust Street in Northampton Fire Station at 51 Huntington Road in Worthington According to Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan, nearly 74,000 pounds of drugs have been safely disposed of since 2011 during these Drug Take Back events. “In working with participants in the Drug Diversion and Treatment Program, I have learned just how important it is to remove all unneeded drugs from homes as they can so easily lead to the start of a misuse or addiction problem,” said Maria Pantoja, Director of the Northwestern District Attorney’s DDTP. “It is one small effort we can all take to save lives.” To find a location near you visit dea.gov/takebackday.
