WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Westfield Police Department is warning residents about an uptick of cars broken into recently.
Final weekend for “The Great Halloween Drive-Thru”
Police say that over the past two weeks there have been a number of reported car break-ins and are reminding residents to not leave them unlocked. They are working to determine if the recent break-ins are random or if there is a certain pattern.
In Westfield, approximately 95 percent of reported vehicle break-ins occurred when the doors were left unlocked. This serves as a reminder to lock your vehicles, even if they are in your driveway, and remove any valuables from your car. Mass.gov provides a list of tips to ensure your vehicle safety:
Park in well-lit areas
Close and lock all windows and doors when you park
Hide valuables out of sight, such as in the glove box or trunk
Do not leave your keys in your vehicle
Do not leave the area while your vehicle is running
Get a good car alarm
Add a car-theft tracking device
Police urged residents to call them if they see anything suspicious.
