Chaves County residents affected by flood offered tax extension

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department is giving those affected by recent flooding in Chaves County more time to file their taxes.

Taxpayers who own businesses or live in Chaves County can have their tax deadline extended by up to three months. Businesses with gross receipt tax, compensating tax, withholding taxes, oil and gas taxes, combined fuel tax and other excise taxes; extensions will apply to for returns due on October 25, November 25 and December 25. Those filing income taxes on a fiscal year basis normally ending October or November will also have the three month extension.
Anyone planning on taking advantage of the extension is asked to send a letter notifying the departing and provide support that they were affected by the flooding. Letters can be mailed to P.O. Box 630, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504-0630.
