Newport police arrest two on firearms, drug charges

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Newport police arrested two people on illegal firearms and drug charges on Thursday.
Tyquan Mitchell, 24, and Gerald McNeill, 62, both of Newport, were taken into custody after an investigation prompted by several neighborhood complaints about drug activity at an apartment on Broadway.
Warrants were obtained for the apartment, as well as a residence at Bayside Village.
Detectives found crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia at the Broadway residence, and crack cocaine and an illegal firearm with an illegal magazine and at the Bayside Village residence.
Mitchell is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence
and possession of a high capacity feeding device.
He was arraigned at Second Division District Court and held on $40,000 surety bail.
McNeill was charged with maintaining a narcotics nuisance and possession of crack cocaine.
He was arraigned at Second Division District Court and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
