Final Rhode Island mosquito report released, no additional EEE or West Nile virus cases

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has released the final Rhode Island mosquito report of 2024.
According to the report, additional eastern equine encephalitis, West Nile virus, or Jamestown Canyon Virus were not found in samples.
The last traps that were collected were back on October 15 and October 16.
Officials said the tests are ending because during this season the mosquito populations are considered to be significantly decreased.
A total of 20 EEE samples were found, and 16 samples were found of West Nile.
There was six confirmed cases of West Nile, and one confirmed case of human EEE.
