EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police have released the name of the Providence man who died after a crash last Sunday on I-95 in Exeter.
Sandro R. Aguilar, 51, was in a car being towed by his 16-year-old son and wife when a truck slammed into them, according to police.
Aguilar was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The boy and his mother were treated for minor injuries and the truck driver was not hurt.
Police said the towing vehicle was using only tie-down ropes and didn't have proper safety lights.
A witness told police the car was traveling well below the speed limit, while the truck driver said he didn’t see the two vehicles in front of him when he was driving.
The crash shut down all three travel lanes in the area of Exit 9 for nearly four hours.
