(COLORADO SPRINGS) — FOX21 News is preparing for the Fashion with a Purpose fashion show on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Boot Barn Hall in Colorado Springs, which will benefit a great cause. Donna D'Amico, Vice President and General Manager at FOX21 joined Anchors Craig Coffey and Julie Baker on Friday morning, Oct. 25, to speak about the purpose behind the fashion show, which is to raise awareness of human trafficking and how the fashion industry can play a part in this problem. "Well first of all if you look at the bigger picture of human trafficking overall, when you think about it as a criminal industry, the reason it is so lucrative is because you can use people over and over again," said D'Amico. "People can be exploited over and over again, whether it's sex trafficking, human trafficking, labor trafficking—it takes on many different names." D'Amico, who also appeared on Loving Living Local on Friday, explained that the fashion show will also benefit several local organizations in our community including; Sarah's Home, Daniel Academy, and the Human Trafficking Task Force of Southern Colorado. "The more we can create awareness and educate people that it's happening right here in our own city, schools, everywhere in general, then the more we can tackle the issue," she said. D'Amico said that the fashion show will shine a light on how fashion choices can impact the underground world of labor and human trafficking. >>Fashion with a Purpose tickets: Click here "The fashion industry ranks number two, only to the tech industry, in terms of labor trafficking," said D'Amico. "And, when you think about our country, we rank number one in terms of importing garments and textiles... and it all has to do with fast fashion." The event will also feature fashions from pre-owned and responsibly made boutique retailers. "We just have a really awesome show planned... we have a local artist doing this amazing, art-wearable piece that she is going to display at the end, we will have Miss Colorado there, and so, at the same time, you're going to learn, 'Wow, I can still look really fashion forward, I can support local businesses, and do my little part in not buying so many new clothes.'" FOX21 Anchors Abbie Burke and Taylor Bishop will emcee the event and Loving Living Local Host Nova will be playing the piano and entertaining the crowd with live cabaret-style music. Tickets are still available and you can purchase yours, at the link above.
