SHELBY, NC – A late night fire damaged the smoker area of Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge in Shelby Thursday night. Shelby Fire & Rescue worked to put out the flames at the restaurant on East Dixon Boulevard. A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page says the fire was contained within the fire wall and they are closed until further notice. An automated message at the restaurant says Bridges is closed for the rest of the week and plans to reopen on Wednesday, October 30th. There is no word at this time what caused the fire. Bridges opened in 1946. According to its website, Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge is one of the only few places left that slow cooks pork over hickory all night long.
