NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Check out community events around New Mexico from October 25-31. Albuquerque October 25 Fix-it Clinic – From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Solid Waste Management Department, in partnership with Fuse Makerspace will be giving people a chance to get broken household items repaired. October 25 BCSO's 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat – This free community event promises loads of fun with BCSO deputies and various specialty units ready to dish out candy and smiles going from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. October 25-26 The Show – Albuquerque's longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12. October 25-27 Xanadu at Electric Playhouse – This is the final weekend to catch performances of Xanadu. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee begins at 4:00 p.m. October 25-31 Haunted Scarecrow - American Horror Theater – Experience terror in each room of the Historic Lobo Theater. October 26 Downtown Growers' Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park. October 26-27 Vitalant Epic Treats Blood Drive – Donate blood and receive a free exclusive Halloween t-shirt. This will be at October 26 Red Chile Ristra workshop – Big Jim Farms is hosting this event from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. October 27 Pumpkin Day at the Rail Yards Market – Enjoy over 175 farm, food, and art vendors at the Rail Yards Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. October 31 Ancora and Albuquerque's Songwriter's Cooperative Open Mic – Every Thursday night at Ancora Cafe and Bakery, try your hand at performing some of your own music. October 26 Farmer's Market in Alamogordo – Check out offerings from local farmers, crafters, bakers, and more from Otero County. Runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. October 26 Taos Farmers Market – This will be happening from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Taos County Courthouse Parking lot. October 26 Zoo Boo – This event at the Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo will begin at 9:00 a.m. October 26 Gallup Fall Festival – The festival will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 2112 College Dr. October 26 Zombie Walk 2024 – This event taking place in Downtown Las Cruces will feature costume contests, live music and entertainment, food trucks, and more! Begins at 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. October 27 Sunday Chess Club – Meet at Popolo's Games in Taos beginning at 1:00 p.m. This free event is all ages. October 27 Fun, Safe Community Event – This event by Rodeo De Santa Fe begins at 1:00 p.m. at 3237 Rodeo Rd. October 27 Howl-o-Ween – This event at Meow Wolf Santa Fe begins at 11:00 a.m. October 29 Swing on the Plaza – The free swing dance lesson begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Plaza De Las Cruces. Open dance follows at 8:00 p.m. Albuquerque Notices 🔶 Registration underway for Toys for Tots – The charity, spearheaded by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, provides holiday presents for local kids in need. This year, families with children 14 years old or younger can sign up. Registration will be open through December 8 and can be done online. 🔶 City of Albuquerque accepting nominations for Creative Bravos Awards – The annual event looks to highlights individual artists, organizations, businesses, and collectives that contributed to the city's creative economy. Some awards include; Outstanding Arts Organization, Distinguished Volunteer of the Year, and Significant Contribution to Arts in Education, among others. 🔶 Applications open for affordable housing in northeast Albuquerque – The area near Eubank Blvd. and Lomas Blvd. used to be an old motel but has been converted to permanent housing that will be rented to low-income residents. 🔶 Three prominent Nob Hill restaurants close their doors – In a 24-hour span, O'Niell's Pub, Salt & Board, and Slice Parlor announced on social media they would no longer be in service. 🔶 5 Bernalillo County residents contract E. coli possibly linked to McDonald's, NMDOH says – These cases are part of an outbreak that has sickened people in other states, per NMDOH. The state health agency said there has been one hospitalization and no deaths to date in New Mexico. 🔶 Bernalillo County approves additional funding for 2 water and sewage projects – A total of $608,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding will go to the Mesa del Sol Non-Potable Re-Use Booster Pump and Reservoir Project. According to the county, this project consists of the design and construction of a re-use reservoir, booster pump and transmission lines for a re-use system at Mesa del Sol. 🔶 Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department seeking dog house donations – Those interested in supporting the Dog House Drive can do so in the following ways: Drop off a doghouse at the Animal Welfare Department Westside shelter at 11800 Sunset Gardens Rd. SW or Eastside shelter on 8920 Lomas Blvd. NE Make a cash donation at the city shelters Donate via Pay Pal through Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres  🔶 Bernalillo County moves forward with North Valley Aquatics Center mural – The project consists of a mural highlighting aquatic life naturally present in the Rio Grande that will be painted on the north wall of the center. In her proposal, artist Nani Chacon said the mural will be centered around themes of water ecology, stewardship, and pride in the native ecological system of the Rio Grande Valley. 🔶 Bernalillo County District Attorney shares new proposals for juvenile crime laws – Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman said his office received more than 1,400 juvenile cases between the start of 2023 and the beginning of this month. He said it will take the entire community along with the legislature to make a change. 🔶 Day of the Tread bicycling event returns October 26, 27 – There will be a road cycling event, a gravel event, and a 4k walk. Bikers can choose between different route lengths based on skill level. The start and finish area for all events will be the Sawmill district. New Mexico Notices 🔶 NMSU launches online financial literacy game – The university's Learning Games Lab recently launched the web version of Night of the Living Debt. In this zombie apocalypse, people are fighting for financial survival. 🔶 Federal appeals court upholds Couy Griffin's conviction – A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction against former Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin for his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol. He was convicted for illegally entering the capitol grounds of Congress on January 6, 2021. Griffin appealed his conviction. 🔶 Syphilis surges in New Mexico, NMDOH orders increased testing – The CDC ranks New Mexico as having the highest rate of congenital syphilis, meaning it is passed from mother to infant during birth; and the second highest rate of syphilis infection generally in the nation. 🔶 Free well water tests available at upcoming Gallup Flea Market – The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMHealth) will host a free domestic well water testing event at the Gallup Flea Market on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024. 🔶 New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department seeks funding to expand cannabis enforcement – NMRLD’s FY26 budget request would provide an additional $562,200 over FY25. That request is contingent on the legislature approving expanded law enforcement authority for the department. 🔶 New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance issues emergency order for Chaves County – The order requires health insurers to provide grace periods for premium payments, refill prescriptions early, cover out-of-network services, waive patient cost-sharing and prior authorizations, and cover replacements of essential medical supplies and equipment that were left behind due to evacuations. 🔶 National UFO Historical Records Center opens at Rio Rancho elementary school – The subject of unidentified flying objects has sparked worldwide research for decades. Partnering with a non-profit dedicated to investigating the phenomenon. Rio Rancho Schools will now store tens of thousands of documents and files from a national archive.  🔶 State agencies tell lawmakers their budget requests ahead of 60-day session – Leaders across New Mexico's state agencies are filtering into the Legislative Finance Committee, which holds the purse strings to the budget. 🔶 Police ramp up patrols after reports of looting in Roswell – The Roswell Police Department confirmed there have been a handful of reports of people looting in some of the areas hit the hardest by flooding. Capt. Joe Smith with the Roswell Police Department said the reports include people breaking into cars and stealing property that's been set outside to dry. 🔶 Some NM museums, historic sites allowing free admission to those who served on Veterans Day – Veterans Day weekend will be recognized on Saturday, Nov. 9, Sunday, Nov. 10, and Monday, Nov. 11, 2024. This includes spouses and children. Check with each museum and site, as many are normally closed on Mondays.
