MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Madera County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help with a cold case homicide from September of 1989. A woman was found in an orchard more than 30 years ago in a rural part of Madera County.  Currently, the woman has no name or definite age.   "I'm working with Fresno State," said Detective Luis Padgett of the Madera County Sheriff's Office. "And they were able to give us an age estimation." The woman was estimated to be between 16-28 years old when she was found. She was 5 feet 3 inches, weighed 130 lbs., and is believed to have had black hair.  Padgett said no one reported the woman missing and they don't know if she's from the area.  "We looked, searched our records," he said. "There's no missing person reports for our area. Fresno said for anybody in that timeframe." What they do have is a single piece of sterling silver jewelry and an artist's rendering.  Padget said they took the Jane Doe's skull to PJ Puterbaugh, an artist known for helping police with reconstructions. "There's a ring that somebody would be able to recognize if they remember their family member wearing that," he said. "She did forensic artistry. I took her basically our Jane Doe skull down to her and she made a rendering out of clay and then with the other information would provide her hair colors that we were able to recreate her face." Other identifying markers include a gap in her front teeth that Padgett said stood out.  "If you notice in her photo," he said. "It looks like her tooth is missing, but that tooth is missing. It just didn't come in."  Anyone with information on who the Jane Doe might be is asked to call the Madera County Sheriff's Office at 559-474-2032. Tips may be emailed to [email protected]
