After a record warm day, a cold front will bring in slightly cooler air Friday. Another warmup this weekend will bring more record heat Sunday and Monday. Record warm temperatures have returned to places like Albuquerque, Roswell, Carlsbad, and Truth or Consequences Thursday afternoon. A few more places may still break record high temperatures before the day is over. The good news is, a backdoor cold front will move into New Mexico overnight. It may bring a slightly breezy east wind into the Albuquerque Metro and Rio Grande Valley early Friday morning, with gusts no higher than 30 mph. The front will leave temperatures as much as 5° to 15° cooler Friday afternoon, with the biggest drop in temperatures across the eastern half of the state. A warmup begins again on Saturday as a record strong area of high pressure continues to grow over northern Mexico. We will once again be talking about record and near-record high temperatures Sunday and Monday across parts of New Mexico, as dry weather also continues. Another fall storm will approach New Mexico Monday. It will first bring breezy winds Monday afternoon, then even windier weather on Tuesday. Wind gusts Tuesday afternoon could be as high as 30 to 60 mph. The highest chances for rain and mountain snow will be in southwest Colorado, but a couple spotty showers and a dusting of mountain snow will also be possible in the northern half of the state. The other big impact of this storm will be a strong cold front that will sweep across the state Tuesday evening. This will bring in the coolest air so far this season by Wednesday.
