Blood Supply in the nation not in a shortage

NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — After an emergency blood shortage, the blood supply across the nation is doing okay.
Leaders from Vitalant say it's not at the point where they have four days of blood supply on hand of all blood types, but it is very close.
People have been coming in consistently since that shortage.

Leaders say they need people to donate to maintain the supply, but also for patient needs.
"If somebody needs a blood transfusion, that is the only option, and there is no pill or shot the hospitals can substitute to take place of that donation," said Tori Robbins, Communications Manager for Vitalant in North Dakota. "So truly, if somebody needs a blood transfusion to live, that is their only option."
O negative and O positive are the two most transfused blood types.
