MINOT, ND (KXNET) — The Minot Fire Department got a new addition to its training grounds today, which will help firefighters respond to potential rail emergencies. Today, Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway company donated a replica of a train car to Minot firefighters. First responders can use the car to practice for emergencies involving a high-pressure tank car. CPKC Rail typically hauls potentially dangerous cargo, including propane. The company has partnered with Minot Fire for several years, supplying the department with equipment like this. Minot's Fire Battalion Chief Austin Burns says this prop will help provide valuable practice for the men and women on Minot's department. Minot City Council approves traffic signal removal "Our firefighters get the opportunity to work with the top of a tank car. Typically, we send people to Colorado, we send people to Texas, and now we have this training prop in our hometown, so all of our firefighters get their hands on it," Burns said. "It's not just five people, it's gonna be all 60 of us that can get up there, learn how to isolate the valves, and hopefully keep the community safe." Minot Fire is planning to use the prop in their training exercises as soon as possible. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Today's Top Stories SIGN UP NOW
