BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A twin sister is in mourning after losing her sister to gun violence but says she's still keeping her name alive.
Myesha Davis was killed in a murder-suicide in October 2021, by her fiancé Vinnie Mackie Jr., before shooting and killing himself. Since then, her sister Trinicia Ricks, has hosted vigils in her honor to help keep her name alive.
She not only does this for her children and family but to raise awareness of domestic violence. Ricks says this way, everyone will always remember her name.
"I just feel like it wasn't fair that her whole life was pretty much robbed. Like she didn't get to celebrate herself. She didn't get to finish completing the things she wanted to do in life. So, I feel like me doing it is still honoring her and making her feel alive because I don't ever want her to just be a memory," said Ricks.

Davis leaves behind five children. Ricks says she'll soon be starting a nonprofit organization in Davis's name to continue raising awareness on domestic violence.
